Your child’s journey

Nursery at Sandylands

What is our ethos?

At Sandylands we believe in providing experiences that develops every little learner and prepares them for school life. A big part of our ethos is creating curiosity in the world through access to outdoor experiences, connecting them with nature.

We have two settings

  • Little Seahorses – from 2 years
  • School based nursery – from 2-3 years

We encourage parents to visit our settings to decide from 2 years which environment will meet their child’s individual needs.

Useful information

-     Clothes that are easy for the children when using the toilet

-     Clothes that they can get wet or dirty as we love to play in water, mud, with paint etc

-     Shoes (not crocs) they can easily take off and put on themselves (no laces) as we will be changing into wellies in wet weather.

Please ensure you name all clothing. Please do not bring any toys from home as the children become very upset if they are lost. During settling in sessions some children do like to bring a dummy or a blanket from home to help with the transition.

Indoor shoes if you are coming to nursery in your wellies

A bag with a change of clothes that can be left at nursery

Nappies and wipes if applicable (Please send in nappies instead of pull ups unless your child is ready to use the toilet as we need to get children fully undressed with pull ups.

Named Water bottle (we will rinse and refill these daily and send home at the end of the week to be washed thoroughly)

Sun hat. Please apply suncream before coming to nursery.

Full day children can bring sun cream to be reapplied after lunch

The children who are staying full days can either bring a packed lunch or purchase a school dinner. The school dinners are made in our kitchen at the main school.  The children eat their lunches in the nursery.

Keyworker

Once your child has settled into nursery they will be allocated a keyworker. All staff in nursery will be working with your child and you can speak to any member of staff at any time. The keyworker will build a special relationship with your child and be responsible for their daily care. Our Nursery teacher is responsible for overseeing your child’s care, learning and development.
